How to do Couch Stretch
On the floorHoldBoth sidesIntermediate
Couch Stretch is a on the floor stretch for your abdomen, hips and psoas. Do it on one side, then switch.
Step by step
- 1Kneel with your back to a chair, close to the seat.
- 2Lift your right shin onto the chair, knee on the floor.
- 3Step your left foot forward, then slowly bring your chest up tall.
What you should feel
Let your hips ease gently forward.
Form tips
- Squeeze the right glute to open the hip. Left knee stays over the left ankle. Ribs down, don't arch the lower back.
- Feel the front of your right thigh and hip slowly open.
- Soft shoulders… long, slow breaths.
Make it easier
If your knee is sensitive, place a folded towel underneath it.
Coming out of it
Lower your hands to the floor… and gently bring your knee down.
Muscles it works
Move slowly and stop if anything hurts. This is general guidance, not medical advice; check with a professional if you're injured or recovering.
