How to do Arm Swings

StandingFlowing movementBeginner

Arm Swings is a standing flowing stretch for your triceps, upper back and shoulders.

Step by step

  1. 1Stand with feet hip-width apart.
  2. 2Extend your arms out to the sides.
  3. 3Swing your arms forward, crossing one over the other.
  4. 4Then swing them back out to the sides.
  5. 5Alternate which arm crosses each time.

What you should feel

Let the swing be easy and loose.

Form tips

  • Begin with slow swings. Increase speed gradually as you warm up.
  • Feel your chest open each time you reach wide.
  • Breathe out as you hug in.

Make it easier

Keep the swing small if your shoulders need a gentle day.

Coming out of it

Let the swings get smaller… and rest your arms by your sides.

Muscles it works

Move slowly and stop if anything hurts. This is general guidance, not medical advice; check with a professional if you're injured or recovering.
