How to do Standing Neck Laterals
StandingHoldBoth sidesBeginner
Standing Neck Laterals is a standing stretch for your neck and upper back. Do it on one side, then switch.
Step by step
- 1Stand nice and tall.
- 2Bring your left arm up and over your head, and rest your hand by your right ear.
- 3Then gently let your head tip toward your left shoulder.
What you should feel
Let your right shoulder melt down.
Form tips
- Reach the right fingertips toward the floor. Face forward, don't rotate the chin. Feel the right side of the neck lengthen.
- Feel the side of your neck slowly lengthen.
- Soft jaw… soft face.
Make it easier
If it feels like too much, let your head tip on its own.
Coming out of it
Gently lift your head… lower your hand… and come back to center.
Muscles it works
Move slowly and stop if anything hurts. This is general guidance, not medical advice; check with a professional if you're injured or recovering.
